Annual Giving Opportunities in H&SS

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (H&SS), as the home of so many of our student leaders on campus, bears the responsibility of instilling a vision of mutual understanding and compassion in its students. By supporting our students today, we are building new leaders who will, no doubt, have a profound impact on tomorrow's world.

H&SS envisions today's students as tomorrow's world leaders. In order to accomplish this goal, we have developed several funds that will enable us to continue building our distinctive undergraduate and graduate educational programs.

  • H&SS Undergraduate (Initiatives) Enhancement Fund provides support for a variety of research-related programs for H&SS undergraduate students who want to participate in CMU's Undergraduate Research Initiative. The program allows student researchers to contribute to the University's intellectual community while allowing them to discover the scientific process of discovery new knowledge. The fund also provides support for extracurricular programming, including an H&SS speakers' series specifically related to these students' work, as well as funds for student internships.
  • H&SS Freshman Seminar Fund supports small group seminars and courses presented by H&SS professors that take students to the boundaries of interdisciplinary innovation. Freshman Seminars are offered on diverse topics, such as politics, decision-making, current and past history, mathematics in a scientific context, bioethical controversies, and women in a consumer society, among others. The program often serves as an effective transition vehicle for our freshman from the high school atmosphere to the rigors of academic studies at Carnegie Mellon.
  • H&SS Graduate Fellowships cover the cost of graduate tuition, fees, and reasonable living expenses so that students may concentrate on coursework and research without financial concerns or interruptions. Such departments as the History and English Departments offer full-time teaching and/or research assistantships for PhD and MA students.
  • General support of H&SS to help maintain facilities, provide up-to-date equipment, etc.
